Title vivisection:
A1C: Short name for a hemoglobin A1C which is a test type 1 diabetics routinely get to determine the 3 month average of their blood glucose levels.
(alc)ohol: is in reference to the consumable form of alcohol. The kind you get stupid with on a Saturday night. Not the kind you use before injecting or pricking your fingers.
A1Cohol: My term for life as both a diabetic and a social drinker.
Introduction:
If you found this blog because you have type 1 diabetes but want to introduce drinking to your daily routine, let me tell you this right off the bat. Turn back now! If you have never gone down that road, stay off it.
However, for those of you like me who have shoddy will power and little resistance to the pressures of cultural norms, take a look.
I’m not a doctor and I’ve been an apathetic diabetic for the last thirty years (give or take) so weigh my words accordingly.
In general, medical professionals tend to give the same message as I did in the first paragraph, but life happens outside of a vacuum. Don’t take any advice you happen to glean off this blog as expertise.
I do hope to provide a sounding board for my peers who, like me, are walking atop that fence but fall on the wrong side. At the very least you can learn from my bad but ever improving examples to get up and walk it again if you feel like you can’t just jump over to the other side.
